Bella Thorne is speaking out with a new claim about Charlie Puth, who she was briefly linked to in late 2016.

The 27-year-old actress alleged that Charlie “lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train” because she wouldn’t sleep with him.

If you didn’t know, Bella and Charlie were linked in December 2016 after he brought her to Jingle Ball in Miami as his guest and serenaded her from stage. Before the concert, they were spotted on the beach together.

Days later, Charlie publicly accused Bella of cheating on her ex-boyfriend Tyler Posey, even though they had already broken up. He seemingly saw an old news article and assumed she was still with him.

Charlie took to Twitter at the time and wrote, “I can’t believe what I’m reading. No one should have their heart messed with like this, and I’m not going to be in the middle of it.” Even though he didn’t mention Bella‘s name, he publicly messaged Tyler and said, “I don’t know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn’t be treated this way. She told me she was not with him anymore. This is all news to me.”

Bella responded on Twitter at the time and said, “Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and charlie and I ARENT DATING we are friends. That article was written forever ago. Charlie and I were hanging out.. he saw an old interview and got butthurt but instead of texting me and asking about it he put it on Twitter.”

Bella later opened up about what happened in an interview on Jenny McCarthy‘s SiriusXM radio show.

“Honestly, Ty and I stopped dating and that was really difficult for me. It was definitely one of the hardest breakups I’ve been through,” she said in July 2017. “Basically, Ty and I stopped dating and Charlie had been tweeting about me for a while. He was trying to reach out to me. I had hung out with him twice. We went to the movies. He was cool. I was like, ‘Wow you’re really talented. Holy sh-t. You’re f-cking great, dude.’ And then he invited me to Jingle Ball to watch him perform.”

“Everything just got way blown out of proportion. We weren’t even kissing in that photo. That photo makes it look like we’re about to kiss and we’re straight-up not about to kiss,” she explained. “I was a little bit butt-hurt in that sense. That it got out like that. Obviously, I had to text, call Ty. And Ty wrote me like, ‘It’s all good.’ He actually came over my house later when I had come back into town…we were chill. I didn’t think it was going to be a problem. Because I knew personally that me and Ty were cool.”

She added, “And Charlie saw an old news article and he didn’t look at the date. And the date is old and it’s about me and Ty…in Charlie‘s defense, when he read it, it sounded like it was about me and Ty still being together. So he didn’t even text me or talk to me about it…I kept calling him. Wouldn’t answer my calls. Then he just starts texting me…He should have just called me, Charlie.”

Fast forward to 2025, Bella left a comment after Jade Thirwall mentioned Charlie as the one artist she “wouldn’t collaborate” with.

Bella commented on the @PopFaction post and wrote, “Yeah I mean .. he lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train. All because I wouldn’t …. Do the deed with him.”

Charlie actually got married in September of last year.
