'Boardwalk Empire' Star Michael Pitt Arrested, Charged With Alleged Sexual Abuse
Context:
Michael Pitt, known for his roles in 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Dawson’s Creek,' has been arrested and charged with alleged sexual abuse in New York City. The charges include two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, assault with a blunt object, and second-degree strangulation, stemming from incidents involving an ex-girlfriend between April 2020 and August 2021. Pitt has pleaded not guilty to all charges, posted bail, and is scheduled for a court appearance on June 17. His attorney claims the allegations are baseless and emerged years after the incidents during a consensual relationship. This is not Pitt’s first legal issue, as he was previously arrested in July 2022 for assault and petty larceny and was hospitalized in September 2022 after an alleged rooftop incident.
Dive Deeper:
Michael Pitt was arrested and charged with serious allegations, including two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, assault with a blunt object, and second-degree strangulation, following incidents purportedly involving an ex-girlfriend between April 2020 and August 2021.
These allegations arose from four separate incidents in which Pitt allegedly used objects like a cement block and a chunk of wood to attack the ex-girlfriend at their shared home in Bushwick. The alleged strangulation incident took place in August 2021.
Pitt has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and after posting bail, he was released from custody. His next court date is scheduled for June 17, where he will continue to challenge these allegations.
His attorney, Jason Goldman, argues that the claims are unfounded and were suspiciously raised years after the alleged incidents. He maintains that during the time in question, Pitt and the accuser were in a consensual and voluntary relationship, suggesting that the case will eventually be dismissed.
Additional legal troubles for Pitt include a July 2022 arrest for assault and petty larceny after he was accused of striking a man and stealing his phone. In September of the same year, he was hospitalized following accusations of throwing items at people from a rooftop.
Michael Pitt has been arrested.
The 44-year-old actor, who starred in Boardwalk Empire and Dawson’s Creek, was charged with alleged sexual abuse in New York City, per Variety.
According to the court records, he was arrested and arraigned at Kings Supreme Criminal Court in Brooklyn on May 2 following an alleged incident in April 2020.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and counts of assault injury with a blunt object and strangulation in the second degree. He pled not guilty to all charges.
Michael posted bail and was released from custody. His next court appearance is set for June 17, according to TMZ.
The New York Post reported that the charges stem from four separate alleged incidents involving an ex-girlfriend between April 2020 and August 2021, in which he allegedly sexually assaulted her and attacked her with objects including a cement block and a chunk of wood at their home in Bushwick. The alleged strangulation happened in August 2021.
His attorney Jason Goldman issued a statement to Variety: “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual. In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, at a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual and voluntary relationship. This case will be dismissed.”
In July 2022, Michael was arrested and charged with assault and petty larceny after striking another man several times and taking his phone. That September, he was hospitalized after being accused of throwing items at people from a rooftop.
