Brenda Song Reveals She Fought for 'The Social Network' Role While Starring on Disney Channel

Brenda Song is opening up about essentially begging to be allowed to star in The Social Network!
The 37-year-old actress played Christy Lee in the movie, but during the time it was made, she was still starring in The Suite Life on Deck on Disney Channel.
While receiving the Variety Virtuoso Award at the Bentonville Film Festival last week in Arkansas, Brenda revealed she had to fight for the role and went directly to the president of Disney Channel at the time, Gary Marsh.

“I was just like, ‘I am an actor. When you hired me, I was not a hotel heiress. If I have ever done anything in my personal life to ever draw bad attention to your company, I understand,” she said, via Variety. “But this is the last season of the show, and this is the opportunity of a lifetime.’ And I was so fortunate, they were so supportive. They allowed me to do this film that truly changed my life.”
Prior to that, she was considered for a role in Clint Eastwood‘s Gran Torino, but Disney would not allow her to do that one.
“The character had an intended sexual assault scene, so Disney nixed it,” she dished. “And I was very upset but I was like, ‘Okay, I guess it didn’t work out.’”
In The Social Network, Brenda‘s Christy Lee performed a sexual act on Andrew Garfield‘s Eduardo, and she was in the first meeting with Mark Zuckerberg (played by Jesse Eisenberg), Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker (played by Justin Timberlake).
Following The Social Network, Brenda continued to star in Disney projects, with the last season of The Suite Life on Deck, of course, as well as Pixie Hollow Games, Teen Girl in a Frog World, Amphibia, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder and Chibiverse.
She is also set to return for the second season of Netflix’s Running Point!
If you missed it, a second Social Network movie is reportedly in the works!
