Cole was in the press room when the Best Actress winner was announced and they reacted, saying, “Who is it? Nicole? Wow. The speculating is over. Wow. Four years. For more years.”
On Tuesday (June 10), two days after the Tonys, Cole shared a video on Instagram story, explaining/clarifying their joke.
“When I made that joke, when I said, you know, ‘Four years. Four more years,’ I meant it like, well, she won, she’s who we’ve got for the next four years — as if I think wining Best Lead Actress in a Musical is the same as winning a presidential election,” Cole said. “But, you know, people just want to pit us Broadway gals against each other. And I think it’s sad. I think it’s sad.”
Cole and Nicole are actually friends and on good terms. In fact, they posed for a photo together backstage with their awards, which you can see HERE!
They also both attended the same after party.
Earlier this year, Cole and Nicole joined several other stars at Patti LuPone‘s New Year’s Eve party to ring in 2025!
