Conner Smith Issued Misdemeanor Citation Following Fatal Car Accident

Conner Smith has received a misdemeanor citation for his role in a fatal car accident last month in Nashville.
On June 8, the 24-year-old country music singer was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when he hit Dorothy Dobbins, 77, while she crossed a street inside a marked crosswalk. She was taken to the hospital where she died.
More than a month later, Conner was issued the citation from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, his lawyer confirmed on Thursday, July 10.

According to a source close to the situation, Conner was charged with a misdemeanor traffic offense – failure to yield resulting in a fatality. As a misdemeanor instead of a felony, the charge underscores a lack of criminal intent.
The source also said that Conner is “encouraged” by the improvements Nashville has made to the scene of the accident, including including adding multiple signs, clearly marking the crosswalk and removing a tree that obstructed the view of the crosswalk.
The country singer also respects the Nashville community’s support for the victim and her family along with the ongoing push for safety improvements that can prevent another similar tragedy from happening again.
The day after he received his citation, Conner took to Instagram to share a statement addressing the situation.
“Four weeks ago, I was involved in a tragic vehicle accident that resulted in the loss of a life,” Conner began. “Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family. My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all. I ask that you continue to lift the Dobbins family up in prayer by name, asking for God’s peace to surround them each day.”
He continued, “Out of respect for everyone involved and to give space for grieving, I made the decision to step away from shows these past few weeks. I have always found that making music and playing shows is a place of healing for me – but for this moment, it was important for me to take time away.”
“I’m thankful to serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted, and I have leaned on Him every step of the way,” Conner concluded. “Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before. Psalm 91.”
