Tita Lau is one the rising stars on the dance music scene, and we want Just Jared readers to get a chance to know her even better!

The UK-based singer-songwriter, producer and DJ has been skyrocketing in the past few years with her contributions to the EDM world, including “One of a Kind,” “I Can’t Take No More,” “Vibrate,” On the Ground” and “Disconnected,” her Beatport No. 1 hit with James Hype. (Fun fact: the two DJs are engaged!)

She’s already trekked across the globe on tour across the United States and Europe, performed at festivals including Tomorrowland and Creamfields, and has performed at major events in massive venues, including the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Get to know Tita Lau with these 10 Fun Facts!

1. I started my career as a vocalist, singing and writing for other DJs’ records before moving on to vocalizing all of my own tracks.

2. I’ve been DJing for around 15 years. I first taught myself on Technics 1210s that my ex-boyfriend bought me for £100 — I know, right? I saved up, sold the Technics, and got CDJ 1000s because that’s what all the clubs were using and I needed to learn on the right gear. My one regret is selling them. One day, I’ll buy 1210s again… even though they’re basically a million pounds now 🥲.

3. My name means “one of a kind.” It also means “auntie” in many languages 😝— that was actually the inspiration behind my track “One of a Kind.”

4. I’m a qualified hairdresser. My dad asked me to learn a trade just in case music didn’t work out. I lasted less than six months in the salon working two jobs before I went full-time into DJing.

5. My fiancé is one of the best DJs in the world (obviously, I’m biased). Also, Test said he’d DJ our wedding… INSANE.

6. I love fashion and often make or rework a lot of my stage outfits myself.

7. My dad is an amazing chef. I grew up working most nights in our family Chinese takeaway/restaurant, which allowed me to make music in my home studio during the day. I’m really lucky my parents were super supportive and gave me time off whenever possible to go to shows. I actually now have my own night called TAKE OUT in honor of them.

8. I’m half Chinese and half English. No one can ever figure out where I’m from — it’s one of the most searched things about me! So here it is: my dad is from Hong Kong, and my mum is English.

9. I’ve been pescatarian for over 10 years now.

10. My biggest song on Spotify, “Disconnected,” was actually the result of a disagreement my fiancé James and I had in the studio. I said, “I feel a little… disconnected,” and he told me, “Say that into the mic.” And that was it — “Disconnected” was born. The whole song came together in about 15–20 minutes!
