Jimmy Kimmel’s Show Suspended Amid FCC Threats and Controversy

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show has been suspended indefinitely following controversial remarks he made about the fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

During his September 15 monologue, Kimmel criticized Trump supporters for politicizing the arrest of Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with Kirk’s murder. His comments quickly sparked outrage among conservative groups and political leaders, prompting the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to weigh in.

FCC chairman Brendan Carr issued warnings to ABC and Disney, stating that broadcasters have a “unique obligation” to serve the public interest and not push narrow political ideologies. Carr suggested action could be taken if the network failed to address the issue.

In response, ABC pre-empted Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely, though the network has not formally canceled the program. Kimmel’s current contract runs until 2026, leaving the long-term future of the show uncertain.

Nexstar and Sinclair, two major broadcast groups, announced they would no longer air Kimmel’s show on their ABC affiliates, citing his remarks as “offensive and insensitive.” Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump applauded the suspension, calling it “long overdue” and urging other networks to cancel rival late-night hosts.

For now, ABC has confirmed that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will remain off the air while the network reviews the situation.
