Scheana Shay is sharing an awkward encounter with one of her famous exes!

The 40-year-old Vanderpump Rules alum spoke about her past romances in her memoir. Included in the list is 47-year-old singer John Mayer.

According to Scheana, she had an awkward run-in with John at an event years after the two of them had gone their separate ways!

Scheana told PEOPLE she ran into John at an event in Los Angeles two years ago. She told the publication, “I saw him, and I awkwardly give him a hug, like, ‘Hey, and then made a joke like, ‘Oh, we should get a photo.’ And he was like, ‘No.’ And I was like, ‘I was kind of kidding.’ But yeah, that was awkward.”

According to Scheana, that wasn’t her only awkward encounter with John. She told PEOPLE she saw him again in 2024 and this time, tried to make things less uncomfortable.

“I didn’t even go in for the hug. He went out for a handshake. I’m like, ‘Well, this is awkward, too,’” she recalled.

Scheana‘s memoir alleges that she met John while working at his birthday party in 2008 and that the two of them had a casual relationship while he was also dating Jennifer Aniston. She said that once rumors of their relationship started to go public, John broke things off with her.
