Earlier this week, a $50 million lawsuit was filed against the 85-year-old singer by four former housekeepers, who alleged Smokey “repeatedly” “raped” them. Smokey‘s wife Frances Robinson was also named in the lawsuit.
On Wednesday (May 7), Smokey‘s attorney Christopher Frost released a statement with People slamming the allegations as “an ugly method of trying to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon.”

The attorney, who is also representing Smokey‘s wife Frances, said that the singer will “respond in his own words” in time, and will soon file a legal response in court.
“We ask anyone following this case to reserve judgment as the evidence comes to light and all the actual facts of the case unfold,” Frost said. “We will be asking the Court to dismiss the lawsuit. We will also be asking the Court to address that in their statements to the press about Mr. Robinson, the plaintiff’s attorneys have reached beyond the bounds of liberties that even lawyers are typically allowed in this context.”
The sexual misconduct lawsuit against Smokey Robinson comes less than a month after he appeared at the Hollywood Beauty Awards in Los Angeles.
