Walmart Water Bottle Recall Alert: Exploding Lids Cause Serious Injuries

Walmart just announced an urgent recall affecting nearly 850,000 stainless-steel insulated water bottles after reports of serious injuries, including permanent vision loss. Here's everything you need to know to stay safe and get your refund.

Why Are Ozark Trail Water Bottles Being Recalled?

The safety issue lies with the screw-on lid of the 64 oz Ozark Trail stainless steel bottles. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), pressure can build inside the bottles when they're used to store food or carbonated drinks. This pressure causes the cap to suddenly—and forcefully—eject when opened, posing significant impact and laceration hazards.

Unfortunately, this isn't just a minor inconvenience. Walmart has confirmed three incidents where consumers were struck in the face by these exploding caps. Even more troubling, two customers have suffered permanent blindness from injuries to their eyes.

Which Bottles Are Included in the Recall?

The recall specifically targets Ozark Trail 64 oz stainless steel insulated water bottles. These water bottles have a silver stainless-steel body with the Ozark Trail logo clearly visible on the side and a black, one-piece screwcap lid. The model number (83-662) only appears on the product packaging, not on the bottle itself. These bottles have been available nationwide at Walmart stores and online since 2017, retailing for around $15 each.

What Should You Do if You Own One?

Stop using the bottle immediately. Walmart is urging customers to return any recalled bottles to their nearest store right away. You won't need a receipt; bring the bottle in, and you'll get a full refund, no questions asked.

Walmart's Recent Recalls
