Whoopi Goldberg Slams Awkward Script on 'The View' During Tom Bergeron Intro: 'Who Wrote This?'

Leave it to Whoopi Goldberg to speak her mind, even mid-script.

On Wednesday's episode of The View, the longtime cohost had a now-viral moment. Right in the middle of introducing her pal Tom Bergeron, she paused mid-script, side-eyed the off-camera team, and straight-up asked, “Who wrote this?”

The slip happened as Goldberg was introducing longtime friend and guest Tom Bergeron.

And she wasn’t wrong. The whole thing was awkward.

A Not-So-Funny Joke

The segment started out fine. But when Whoopi came back from commercial, all set to introduce Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron and chat about his new show Dancing With Sharks, the script took a weird left turn.

“I don’t mean Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran,” Whoopi read, eyebrows raised, clearly trying to make sense of the Shark Tank reference.

She paused, looked offstage, and said what everyone at home was probably thinking:

“Who wrote this?”

The crowd cracked up. And to her credit, Whoopi kept it moving:

“I’m talking about real sharks. So, please welcome what’s left of Tom Bergeron!”

A little roast and a solid comeback, all very Whoopi.

Why the Name-Drop Felt… Off

Here’s where things get interesting. Just a day before the on-air moment, Whoopi had called out Cuban over a recent speech where he criticized Democrats for being too reactive to Donald Trump, saying it was not a winning strategy. Goldberg wasn't having it.

She clapped back on Tuesday's episode, pointing to record voter turnout and activism. The message, according to her, has been working just fine.

And let’s not forget Barbara Corcoran's infamous View appearance in 2021. Corcoran made a body-shaming joke at Whoopi’s expense. Even though she apologized later, it was a messy moment that didn't sit well with viewers.

So yeah, reading both of their names off the prompter, on live television? It was a tad tone-deaf.

Bergeron Rolls With It

Luckily, Tom Bergeron didn’t skip a beat. The guy’s been hosting live TV since forever, so rolling with awkward moments is kind of his thing.

The former AFV and Dancing with the Stars host smiled through the segue and joined the panel for a friendly catch-up. His new TV special, Dancing With Sharks, adds a playful twist to the reality genre, pairing underwater adventure with tongue-in-cheek charm.

Why This Moment Hit Home for Viewers

The View thrives on unscripted energy. It’s one of the few shows where you can still see authentic reactions and honest pushback.

That’s what fans love about Whoopi. If a script’s bad, she’ll say it. If a comment feels off, she’ll stop the show to call it out.

And this time she did it with a wink, a laugh, and a perfectly timed jab.

Live TV Is Still… Live

If anything, Whoopi’s little “who wrote this?” moment is a reminder of what makes The View so watchable.

We’ve all read something out loud and thought, “Uhhh, this makes zero sense.” The only difference being Whoopi said it out loud… on national TV… with cameras rolling.

And somehow, that made it even better.
