How to Watch Trump's Primetime Address on the Iran War Tonight
President Donald Trump will address the nation on Wednesday, April 1, at 9 p.m. ET. The White House confirmed the primetime address, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt describing it as an "important update on Iran."
It is Trump's first formal address to the nation since the United States and Israel began bombing Iran in late February — more than a month into the conflict.
How to Watch
Trump's address will air live on all major television networks, including:
ABC
NBC
CBS
CNN
Fox News
NewsNation
The speech can also be streamed live on the White House's official website and YouTube channel.
What the Speech Is Expected to Cover
According to a White House official, Trump is expected to reaffirm his intention to end the war within the next two to three weeks. On Tuesday, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: "I think within two or three weeks, we'll leave. There is no reason for us to do this."
The address comes at a volatile moment. On Wednesday morning, Trump posted on Truth Social that Iran's president had asked the United States for a ceasefire. He said the U.S. would consider the request once the Strait of Hormuz is "open, free, and clear." Iran's foreign ministry dismissed the claim as "false and baseless," and a spokesperson for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was determined to fight on.
Where the War Stands
The conflict began on February 28, and the situation has continued to escalate in recent days.
The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush was deployed Tuesday, heading to the Middle East along with three destroyers and more than 6,000 sailors. Thousands of soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division have also arrived in the region, and reports indicate at least 2,500 Marines recently entered the area aboard the USS Tripoli.
Thirteen U.S. service members have been confirmed killed in the conflict so far.
Iran rejected a 15-point peace plan offered by U.S. officials on March 25. The two sides have been exchanging messages through intermediaries in third-party countries, but no direct face-to-face talks have taken place.
The Strait of Hormuz and Global Impact
A central issue in the conflict is Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world's oil supply normally flows. The blockage has sent fuel prices rising globally, with gas prices averaging more than $4 per gallon nationwide in the United States.
Britain announced it would host a virtual meeting Thursday with representatives from 35 nations to assess diplomatic options for reopening the waterway. An estimated 20,000 seafarers are currently trapped aboard vessels in the active war zone, with some ships reportedly running low on food and water.
An Iranian missile struck a fuel oil tanker in Qatar's territorial waters on Wednesday. Two of three cruise missiles were intercepted, but the third hit the vessel. None of the 21 crew members were injured, according to ship operator QatarEnergy.
Pope Leo XIV and International Reaction
Pope Leo XIV called for a reduction in violence ahead of Easter weekend, expressing hope for a diplomatic resolution. "I'm told that President Trump recently stated that he would like to end the war," Leo said. "Hopefully he's looking for an off-ramp."
Trump also drew attention Wednesday for saying he is strongly considering pulling the United States out of NATO, after European members declined to join the war effort. He called the alliance a "paper tiger."
