Bucks waive another point guard in surprise buyout along with Damian Lillard

The Milwaukee Bucks are cutting yet another point guard from their 2025-26 roster.

Per Eric Nehm of The Athletic, the Bucks are negotiating a buyout with newly-acquired point guard Vasilije Micić.

Milwaukee initially traded former 2021 champion shooting guard Pat Connaughton, now out of head coach Doc Rivers' rotation, plus second round picks in 2031 and 2032 to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Micić. The deal saved the Bucks $1.1 million (Connaughton picked up his $9.2 million player option earlier this summer).

The 6-foot-5 vet, 31, will surrender $6.1 million from his $8 million contract in his buyout, and thus the Bucks' cap hit will become a scant $2 million. Milwaukee will waive-and-stretch that remaining salary over the course of three seasons, and will pay him $666,666 per year. The Bucks are also waiving-and-stretching Lillard's remaining money, and will pay him $22.5 million across the next five years.

Micić split his 2024-25 season between the Hornets and Phoenix Suns. He was traded from Charlotte to Phoenix on February 6 as a throw-in for the team's deal to ditch pricey center Jusuf Nurkic — only to be reacquired by the Hornets during June's NBA draft. Charlotte flipped him again to Milwaukee, and now he's set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Nehm notes that Micić is set to look into work opportunities both in the league and in Europe.

Across 41 combined games for the Hornets and Suns last year (16 starts), Micić averaged 6.6 points on .348/.360/.829 shooting splits, 3.1 assists, and 2.2 rebounds.
