Chelsea legend shares his verdict on star player's Club World Cup performance
While Cole Palmer stole all the headlines in the Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez managed to silence a lot of his doubters with his performance in the final.
The Spanish shot-stopper has often faced a lot of criticism for his performances between the sticks, but managed to redeem himself to a certain extent in the final against PSG.
But despite an impressive performance in the final, one Chelsea legend still has his doubts about Sanchez’s credentials and his ability to be the first-choice goalkeeper for the Blues.
One of Sanchez’s biggest critics has been club legend John Obi Mikel, who has high standards of the club after his very successful playing days at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel was extremely critical of Sanchez’s performance against Fluminense and still believes that Chelsea ought to sign a world-class goalkeeper to take their team to the next level.
This, despite praising Sanchez for his performance in the final of the Club World Cup against PSG.

What Mikel said about Robert Sanchez and the goalkeeping situation at Chelsea
Mikel told DAZN, “I still believe we do need a top, top goalkeeper. Robert Sanchez had a brilliant game today, but going into the new season with the Champions League and the Premier League, I think you still need another top goalkeeper that is going to come in and compete with him.”
Though Sanchez proved himself in the Club World Cup final, Mikel does have a point, and it won’t hurt for Chelsea to bring in another top-class goalkeeper to increase the competition for places in the side.
The Blues have been linked with a number of shot-stoppers from around the globe, and it’ll be interesting to see if and when they bring in a new goalkeeper to give Sanchez some competition for his starting spot in the side.
