Cincinnati Bengals training camp preview: Quarterbacks

With Joe Burrow leading the way, the Cincinnati Bengals have one of the stronger quarterback rooms in the NFL, and as long as Burrow stays healthy, the team should be one of the top contenders coming out of the AFC. After an injury-plagued season in 2023 where he was limited to 10 games, Burrow had a big bounce back year in 2024, playing all 17 games in which he threw for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

The highly productive season from Burrow would not be enough as the Bengals went 9-8 on the season and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year. Coming into training camp, here's a look at where the Bengals stand at quarterback for the 2025 season.

Joe Burrow

2024 stats: 4,918 passing yards, 43 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 70.6% completion percentage, 108.5 QB rating.

There's not much more to add about the highly talented Burrow, the former No. 1 overall pick will need to be the unquestionable leader for this Bengals team to get back to being a championship contender. With Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson in the same division, Burrow has an opportunity to outshine some of the best quarterbacks in recent NFL history. He's been very, very good early on in his career, but after showing he can come back strong from injury last season, he'll now have to take it another step further and get Cincinnati back into the playoffs.

Jake Browning

2024 stats: N/A

Browning not recording any stats means Burrow stayed healthy all season, and that's a good thing for all parties involved. Thrown into action in the 2023 season due to Burrow's injury, Browning proved himself to be one of the more reliable backups in the NFL. In 9 games he threw for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions with a 70.4% completion percentage, but went 4-5 in those games. If needed, Browning has shown he is a capable backup who can put up respectable numbers.

Logan Woodside

2024 stats: N/A

A well-traveled backup since entering the league in 2018 as a seventh-round pick, Woodside is in his second stint with the Bengals who were the team that originally drafted him. With only 4 career passing attempts, Woodside is a familiar name within the organization that provides consistency in the quarterback room.

Payton Thorne:

2024 stats (Auburn Tigers): 2,713 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 62.8% completion percentage

Thorne comes to Cincinnati as an undrafted rookie who signed in May, after he spent five collegiate seasons between Michigan State and Auburn. He was fifth in the SEC in passing touchdowns last season and seventh in the conference in passing yards. He'll likely battle Woodside for the third spot on the depth chart behind Burrow and Browning.
