Cooper Flagg lottery win sparks $8M ticket surge, new sponsorships for Mavericks after Doncic fallout
One season after making the NBA Finals, a lot has changed within the Dallas Mavericks. Luka Doncic is no longer with them as they get Anthony Davis in return from a blockbuster three-team trade involving the LA Lakers. Just when fans were taking shots at the franchise for trading away the one player everyone was getting inspired by, they received some good news.
On May 12, Dallas won the NBA lottery after having odds of just 1.8%. This will allow them to pick Cooper Flagg first overall on Wednesday at the 2025 NBA draft. Flagg's potential arrival is already bringing fans back to the stadium after the Doncic fallout.
The team was able to sell $8 million worth of season tickets after the NBA lottery win, said one Mavericks team source to ESPN.
"We surprisingly renewed 75-80% of our season tickets," one Mavericks team source said. "But we had a lot of work to do in earning back the confidence and fandom of a not insignificant segment of our fan base. We sold $8 million in new season tickets in the three days after the lottery."
Not only that, a major sponsorship deal, which took a pause after Doncic was traded, finally went through after learning about the Mavericks' NBA lottery win and the positive momentum among fans that came along with it.
"We have done two additional new sponsor deals, one the second largest in our history, since the luck of the lottery," the Mavericks source said.
Flagg is already making heads turn and even his college coach Jon Scheyer believes Mavericks is a "dream place" to start your career with.
