Cubs could trade for $67 million 2x All-Star to boost the starting rotation
The Chicago Cubs are poised to make a run toward the postseason, but they could use some additional help on the roster to ensure they advance far this fall.
Chicago could add another pitcher to their starting rotation by next month's trade deadline to add more depth to the roster.
Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan from ESPN believe the Cubs would be a good fit for trading for Athletics pitcher Luis Severino.
"Severino tunnels his fastball/sinker/sweeper combo well to limit damage, but because he has a middling strikeout rate, his upside is limited to a No. 3/No. 4 starter. Teams are intrigued by his road numbers, which are exceptional: 0.93 ERA in 38.2 innings over six starts without a home run allowed," McDaniel and Passan wrote. "They are not so intrigued by his contract, which goes two more years at $47 million."
Severino signed a three-year, $67 million contract this offseason and would be a nice addition to the Cubs' rotation.

Severino is a two-time All-Star, but he hasn't appeared in the All-Star Game since 2018, when he was a member of the New York Yankees.
The Cubs should consider making a move for a starting pitcher this July, and Severino would be a great option if they are unable to land the best pitchers on the market.
