Detroit Lions, Tigers on track to be 1st NFL-MLB city combo to ever reach historic stat
Lions and Tigers, oh my.
Detroit is having a historic calendar year on the gridiron and the diamond. In fact, if the Tigers keep up their current pace, it'll be the winningest combo year in NFL-MLB history.
The Lions won 15 regular season games in 2024, and the Tigers have turned around and have a current pace of 105 wins entering Saturday, June 14.
According to OptaStats, there's never been back-to-back seasons in the same NFL-MLB city of at least 15 NFL wins and at least 100 MLB wins.
When you add in the fact that the Pistons had a 30-win turnaround this winter, it's not a bad time to be a sports fan in the Motor City, except if you like hockey.
The Lions could put up a huge win total again this fall, too, which would expand upon the unprecedented combination.

It's a bit of a fluky stat, if only for the fact that 15 NFL wins would've never been possible in a 14-game season and was even harder in 16 games vs. the current 17 games.
It still emphasizes just how special this sports time has been in Detroit.
All that's left is for the Tigers to win the World Series and the Lions to win the Super Bowl. If you're going to win this many games and fire the city up, might as well finish the job.
