Former Tottenham star considering retirement after being banished by Como
Como under the tutelage off Cesc Fabregas have shown intent in the transfer market after they finished 10th in the 2024/25 Serie A points table in their first year in the Italian top flight after 21-year absence.
Since their exceptional last season, they have done great business in the market, signing some talented young players in Jesus Rodriguez, Jacobo Ramon, Maximo Perrone, Alex Valle, among many others.
Considering the influx of new players, it has been tough for English midfielder Dele Alli, who has been left out of Como's preseason plans, and the former Tottenham Hotspur star is considering retirement.
Alli moved to Como in January and signed an 18-month deal with the Serie A club but now he is not in manager Cesc Fabregas' plans.
Once regarded as one of the most gifted English midfielders, Alli has failed to resurrect his career following spells of injuries and inconsistent form.
He moved to Como in search of regular gametime with the hope of reigniting his career and also to make his way into the England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

However, things have not gone his way since moving to Serie A as he got sent off in his first game for Como putting his team in danger against AC Milan. It was also his first appearance in two years after he featured for Besiktas on loan from Everton.
His reckless tackle in such a crucial game invoked a furious reaction from Fabregas and since then he has fallen out with the manager which has led to this decision ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Why is Dele Alli considering retirement?
As per reports on Gazzetta dello Sport, Alli is already considering retirement less than four years after he left Tottenham Hotspur.

He is reportedly training separately from the Como senior team players and will soon take a decision on his future.
Alli burst on to the scene at MK Dons and sealed his first big move to Spurs in 2015. He spent seven seasons at Tottenham where he enjoyed many sensational campaigns.
His 2016/17 campaign was exceptional where he netted 22 goals across all competitions and was labelled as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.
He also played a big role in guiding Tottenham's journey to the Champions League final in 2019 where they lost to Liverpool.
His move to Everton didn't work out and his loan move to Besiktas also didn't yield much success, in fact, he suffered a serious groin injury which sidelined him for almost a year.
It looks like a sobering chapter in a career that promised so much more.
