Giants earn stellar NFL draft grade for Darius Alexander pick
The New York Giants draft haul will be defined by their selections in Round 1, but they also made a crucial selection on Day 2.
Despite only having one pick on the second day of the draft due to the trade up for quarterback Jaxson Dart, New York was able to make the most of it by taking Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander.
In the eyes of NFL.com's Chad Reuter, it was a stellar pick, earning Big Blue an "A-" grade on Day 2.
"Trading back into the first round for Jaxson Dart cost the Giants their third-round pick this year and next. I didn't change their Day 2 grade because there's a chance they found their future starting quarterback," Reuter wrote. "Alexander's length and athleticism give him a chance to start in Year 2, potentially becoming a Day 2 version of Leonard Williams if he maximizes his skill set."
The Giants have long needed more depth on the interior defensive line. While Dexter Lawrence is an All-Pro talent at the nose tackle spot, they've needed more juice from the other defensive tackle spot.
Alexander brings upside both as a run defender and a pass-rusher, especially after the show he put on during the Senior Bowl.
There are other areas the Giants need to address on Day 2, but it's difficult to be upset about the first three selections to begin the weekend.
