Heelan's Kasen Thomas commits to Iowa football
Another top player in Iowa's Class of 2026 is off the board after Kasen Thomas made his commitment. Thomas, who will be a senior this fall for Sioux City Bishop Heelan, committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes recently.
Thomas is a three-star prospect who is ranked in the Top 500 in the country according to 247Sports. He selected the Hawkeyes over offers from Iowa State, Arizona and Nebraska.
Regarded as the No. 5 player within his home state, Thomas recorded 44.5 tackles with 5.5 sacks and two interceptions last year. He returned both of those interceptions for touchdowns.
While he is not likely to see the field on offense at Iowa, Thomas shined there for Heelan last year. He rushed for 1,841 yards and scored 26 touchdowns.
"I'm home," Thomas posted on social media to confirm his commitment.

Iowa also has received a commitment from Carson Nielsen, who is a Top 5 prospect in the state from Waterloo West.
Thomas, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 220 pounds, is a two-time all-state selection who has also earned a pair of all-district honors. He made an official visit to Nebraska earlier this month, but opted to sign with the Hawkeyes, a Big Ten Conference rival, instead.
