Joan Laporta confirms Barcelona star set to sign new deal 'soon' amid exit rumors
Barcelona fans can breathe a little easier — Frenkie de Jong isn’t going anywhere just yet.
Club president Joan Laporta has confirmed that talks over a new contract for the Dutch midfielder are moving in the right direction, easing fears of a summer exit.
De Jong’s future has been a topic of hot debate in recent seasons. His wages are among the highest at the club, and teams like Manchester United have shown strong interest more than once.
Still, despite the noise, Barca look set to keep one of their most important midfielders.
The 28-year-old, who joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019, is now considered a vital part of Hansi Flick’s plans.
After overcoming a serious ankle injury last season, he returned stronger and helped steady a rocky midfield during a tough run of games. Now, the club wants to build around him again — and make sure he sticks around.

What Joan Laporta said on Frenkie de Jong’s future?
Speaking at a charity golf event, Laporta gave a clear message about where things stand.
“It’s on the right track. We want Frenkie to be here for many years. He’s a key player on the team. I hope he stays, he wants to; and I know he’s very happy at Barça and wants to stay. There are no issues.”
That view was backed by Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman, who added:
“He wants to stay and has said several times that he's very happy here. I don't see any problems.”
De Jong is currently enjoying his summer break, but he’s expected back on July 13 for preseason training.
If all goes well, Barcelona could announce his new deal before the season kicks off. For fans worried about another midfield reshuffle — this is one move that looks locked in.
