Kevin Schnall ejected: Why Coastal Carolina head coach was tossed one inning into CWS Final Game 2
The College World Series Finals are underway. LSU took Game 1 from Coastal Carolina, ending the Chanticleers' 26-game win streak. This brought up a pivotal Game 2, which would crown the Tigers the national champions if they were to win.
Kevin Schnall coaches Coastal Carolina. He played catcher at Coastal and joined the coaching staff as an assistant. Schnall was an assistant for the Chants from 2001-2012. He then moved to UCF to be an assistant from 2013-2015. Schnall returned to Coastal in 2016 as the associate head coach just in time to win a national championship with the program.
He led Coastal Carolina to an impressive 56-12 record and another berth in the College World Series Championship Final. Unfortunately for Schnall, his tenure in Game 2 wasn't long lived β he got tossed in the bottom of the first inning.

Here is what happened to cause Schnall to get ejected.
Kevin Schnall ejection
Coastal Carolina was batting in the bottom of the first inning. The Chanticleers had a runner on first, and he stole second on a pitch that was called a strike. Coastal's first base coach Matt Schilling didn't like the strike call. He jawed at the umpire who called time to warn him, as well as the Coastal dugout. Schnall took exception to this and let the umpire know he had missed some calls already.
The home plate umpire wasn't amused. In fact, he tossed Schnall. Then, he tossed Schilling, too.

Additional referees streamed onto the diamond, looking to separate Schnall from the home-plate umpire. One careened into the ground upon contact with Schnall, albeit the Chanticleers boss did little to cause the fall.
The umpire literally just fell over πππ

Schnall wasnβt even near him. What are we doing ejecting 2 coaches and doing this in the bottom of the 1st of a National Title game.

Is Kevin Schnall suspended for the rest of the CWS final?
Typically, ejections don't bring about additional punishment. Schnall's tossing is a different story. The Coastal Carolina boss will not be permitted to be in the dugout if the Chanticleers keep the series alive for a decisive Game 3.
According to ESPN's broadcast, Schnall was issued a warning prior to coming out of the dugout. Because he trotted onto the field, he was given an ejection. He was summarily punished once more for failing to exit the field in a timely manner.
If the series doesn't go three games, Schnall and Schilling will be suspended to start the 2026 season.
Kevin Schnall comments
Schnall was obviously not happy after the game. His team had lost, and he wasn't able to be there for them. His emotions are high, and he had been stewing for a few hours, and had a mini crashout in his press conference. Schnall said his issue was that he was asking for clarification, which he thought, as the head coach, he was due. He said that, then he got shooed away by the umpire. This was why he left the dugout. Schnall then told the umpire he missed three calls, and he was tossed. He also said that an umpire who ran in and fell down said that it should be a two-game suspension for bumping the umpire, but Schnall maintained he didn't touch him and that the umpire gave him a two-game suspension for "being embarrassed."
