Lakers predicted to cut ties with $51 million wing, acquire former first overall pick
The Los Angeles Lakers finished as the third seed in the Western Conference last year, and were eliminated in the first round.
If they plan on competing next season, they should by no means go through this offseason without making a significant move.
Proving their determination to win a championship by bringing in Luka Dončić halfway through the season, don’t be surprised if they pursue other great players.
Anthony Irwin, Senior Lakers Insider, seems to believe so. He proposed the idea that the Lakers trade Rui Hachimura, Maxi Kleber, Dalton Knecht, and Shake Milton for the Miami Heat’s Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson.
“The Lakers and Heat have continued their trade talks. I reported the other day that the Lakers checked in on Andrew Wiggins and negotiations have advanced from there. A deal isn't imminent, but there's been plenty of conversation on this front,” Irwing said on Wednesday.
Although this leaves the Lakers still searching for a center, it brings in a championship DNA player in Wiggins.

Wiggins was the first overall pick in the 2014 draft to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and was expected to play with Lebron James, but was traded on draft night to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Last season, he was traded to the Heat as part of the Jimmy Butler deal and averaged 19 points per game, his most since the 2019-2020 season.
He is a one-time All-Star starter, also the same year he was a key piece on the Golden State Warriors' championship team.
Wiggins could be the missing piece to the Lakers' roster and bring the city their 17th championship.
