Lakers sign No. 1 scorer in college basketball as undrafted free agent
The Los Angeles Lakers got the best scorer in college basketball, and they didn't even have to use a draft pick.
Moments after the NBA Draft's conclusion on Thursday night, the Lakers had an agreement on an undrafted free agent contract with Villanova's Eric Dixon, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
Why wasn't Dixon drafted?
Because he's 6-foot-8 and 260 pounds without an obvious NBA position.
But man oh man, he can score.
He averaged 23.3 points per game for the Wildcats in 2024-25.
That includes a ridiculous 40.7% from 3-point range on 7.2 attempts per night. Crazy efficiency at crazy volume.

If Dixon does nothing else in the NBA but spot up and hit some 3s off passes from LeBron James and Luka Doncic, he's already exceeded his value as an undrafted free agent.
And if he can figure out how to use his sturdy frame effectively inside the arc against NBA athletes, too, he can develop into a starter.
It's a long road ahead, and Dixon will have to prove himself every step of the way.
But the Lakers clearly wanted him, and now Dixon will get his chance in the purple and gold.
