Lakers star LeBron James reveals NBA champion he used to motivate Bronny, Bryce

LeBron James made NBA history in the first game of the 2024-25 season as he became the first player to share the floor with his son, Bronny James, achieving a long-stated goal. He will break another record when next season begins as it will mark his 23rd season in the league, breaking a tie with Vince Carter to set an NBA record.

There has been speculation that James could be targeting 2026-27 as his final year as he would have the opportunity to play with Bryce James, his younger son -- who is set to begin his collegiate career with the Arizona Wildcats in the fall. The four-time NBA champion discussed how he motivates his sons on his "Mind the Game" podcast, revealing that he pointed to the career of an NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist.

"I have a group chat with me, Bronny and Bryce," Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James stated Monday. "From time to time, I'll send things that just focus them back in. So, I sent this June 18th, 2024. I'll tell you who this guy is after I read this. 'Unranked in high school, zero D1 scholarship offers, played three years of Division II basketball at UCCS, transferred to Colorado and now is an NBA champion on one of the best teams in the NBA'. That guy is Derrick White."

"Hell of a player," James continued. "And my message to them, 'everybody's road to success is different so stay locked in and patient'. That was my message to my boys last year."

While Bronny James often faced criticism for his performance as a rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers, his production in the G League picked up later in the season. The 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft is expected to take on a larger role in his sophomore season.
