Luis Enrique dodges Kylian Mbappe question ahead of Real Madrid battle

Paris Saint-Germain bagged a 2-0 win against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup on July 5.

With this victory, PSG are now set to face Real Madrid in the competition's semifinals on July 9 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

While the upcoming match is anticipated to be an intense one, given its cruciality, it will also see Kylian Mbappe meeting his former side, PSG, for the first time since his departure from Parc des Princes last year.

Things did not end on good terms between Mbappe and PSG, with the Frenchman publicly expressing that he was unhappy at the French club in the latter part of his six-year tenure there.

Now, ahead of the Club World Cup semifinal, PSG head coach Luis Enrique was asked questions by reporters about his former star player. The Spanish manager candidly turned them down and mentioned where his priorities lie.

What did PSG boss Luis Enrique say when asked about Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe?

Mbappe arrived at Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer from PSG on a five-year contract in June 2024. The 26-year-old was coached by Enrique in his last season at the Ligue 1 giants.

Enrique has led PSG to claim the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France, Trophée des Champions, and also their first-ever Champions League title in the 2024/25 season.

While addressing the press ahead of the upcoming clash against Real Madrid, Enrique was asked if PSG are a better team now without Mbappe than they were with the Monaco graduate. To which the 55-year-old manager responded,

"This is a question about the past and I’m not here to talk about the past, I’m only thinking about the future," as per Reuters.

PSG and Real Madrid have played against each other in 12 matches, with Los Blancos bagging five victories while the French side managed four wins and the remaining three games ending in a draw.

The winners of the clash between PSG and Real Madrid will face Chelsea in the Club World Cup final on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
