Proposed Seahawks signing adds Bears $80 million star free agent to address remaining need

The Seattle Seahawks need to add another receiver to the roster. Though Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp should be highly productive receiving options for quarterback Sam Darnold, both players mainly operate in the slot, and Seattle's top boundary receiver is Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Seattle will likely have to search the free agency market to solve the need. There aren't many starting-caliber options left on the market, but one player who could catch general manager John Schneider's attention is Keenan Allen.

Sports Illustrated's Matt Urben lists the Chicago Bears free agent as a potential target for the Seahawks.

"Allen's best days are behind him, but the six-time Pro Bowler could provide depth behind Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Considering Kupp's injury history, having another experienced veteran on the roster might not be a bad idea," Urben wrote.

Allen had a down year in 2024 for his standards, tallying 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. The 33-year-old has been one of the most productive receivers in football since he entered the league in 2013.

Though he may be past his prime, Allen can still provide adequate production for the Seahawks. The former third-round pick has the versatility to play in the slot and on the outside, though he has played more in the slot over the last few years.

Pairing Allen with Smith-Njigba and Kupp would give Seattle a nice receiving trio and also take even more pressure off Darnold, who is entering his first season with the team after signing a three-year deal in free agency this offseason.

Overall, Allen shouldn't be too expensive to sign, and the Seahawks still have $31.2 million in cap space to work with. Seattle should add the veteran receiver to the roster and see what he can bring to the offense.
