Rays set unprecedented MLB mark in one of wildest comebacks in recent memory

The Tampa Bay Rays saw their four-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday in a 5-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

On Wednesday, it sure looked like the Rays were going to lose again. The first inning of Wednesday's game went without a run scored.

However, the second inning was disastrous for Tampa Bay as Baltimore scored eight runs on six hits with three home runs in an ugly inning. Rays starter Taj Bradley failed to make it out of the inning.

Yet, somehow, the Rays came back to win with a 12-8 final score in unreal fashion.

Moreover, the Rays didn't give up a hit or run the rest of the way in something that has never been done before, per OPTA Stats

"There have been over 450 instances in the modern era of an MLB team allowing 8+ runs in an inning to open the game's scoring. Only one of those teams allowed no runs or hits the rest of the way and came back to win. That one team was @RaysBaseball tonight."

Yes, really.

The Rays' bullpen came in and didn't allow a single hit from the third inning on, and the only Oriole to reach base was Colton Cowser, who was hit by a pitch.

Moreover, the Rays' offense came to life as they scored the final 12 runs of the game in the largest comeback in franchise history.

After the second inning, the Rays were down 8-0, and the home crowd most likely thought it was over. But it wasn't, somehow, and now it's in the record books.
