Real Madrid eye three central defenders as Xabi Alonso demands overhaul
Real Madrid have already had a busy summer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, and Franco Mastantuono already securing deals with the Spanish side.
New manager Xabi Alonso is making changes in the squad, especially in the defensive unit. The manager has made it known that Raúl Asencio is not his preferred stalwart at back.
Alonso is keen on bringing in more reinforcements, and the manager has a few names in mind.
Who is Alonso considering making a move for?
Reports out of Fichajes suggest that Alonso has shortlisted three central defenders that Real Madrid could sign this summer. Alonso is interested in Ibrahima Konaté, Cristian Romero, and Piero Hincapié.
Liverpool and Konaté have stalled in their talks for a new contract, which has led to Real submitting a bid for the defender. The bid was rejected, but Alonso could attempt to influence Real's heirarchy to submit an improved bid.

Konaté has been influential in Liverpool's backline and his experience would provide Alonso with the stability he wants.
Tottenham's Romero is keen on leaving the club, and Real Madrid could be a good step for him to take. Alonso will get experience from Romero, as the defender has been key for Tottenham and Argentina. He shows great athleticism and is tough at the back.
Alonso's final candidate is Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso coached Hincapié and has shown great faith in the young player. At 23, the Ecuadorian is still learning and improving, but Alonso already has a good relationship with him.
All three players are on the radars of other clubs, but the appeal of playing for Real Madrid could be a big deciding factor. Real are not afraid to make a big splash into their funds on signing new players, especially if Rodrygo ultimately leaves the club.
