Rockets predicted to land $175 million superstar in Bucks blockbuster
The Houston Rockets are dreaming big this offseason.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey has proposed a blockbuster trade that could reshape their future.
In a deal to acquire Milwaukee Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bailey suggests the Rockets could offer Fred VanVleet, Amen Thompson, a 2027 first-round pick (via Phoenix), a 2028 first-round pick swap, a 2030 first-round pick, and a 2032 first-round pick.
“There has been plenty of speculation already as to how the Houston Rockets might be able to land Giannis without giving up Amen Thompson, but the deal could be a lot cleaner by simply including him,” Bailey wrote. “Trading him, Fred VanVleet (and his hefty salary) and a boatload of picks for Giannis would give the Rockets one of the best starting frontcourts in the league.”
Pairing Giannis with Alperen Şengün would create a formidable frontcourt, blending Antetokounmpo’s two-way dominance with Şengün’s playmaking and scoring.
Losing Thompson would be tough to swallow, but the Rockets’ young core of Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., and Reed Sheppard would still provide ample upside, making Houston an instant contender in the West.

For Milwaukee, the trade would kick off a rebuild with the electric Thompson as the centerpiece. Furthermore, the haul of draft picks, including a 2027 first-rounder from Phoenix and additional future assets, would give the Bucks flexibility to build around Thompson and retool for the long term.
From Houston’s perspective, this trade is a high-stakes bet on immediate contention. Giannis, a two-time MVP, would elevate the Rockets’ ceiling, complementing Şengün’s skill set while anchoring an elite defense. VanVleet’s departure would clear cap space and minutes for younger guards like Sheppard.
There is a bit of risk for the Rockets. Moving Thompson and a treasure trove of picks could hamstring Houston’s future if the Giannis experiment doesn’t yield a title. The Rockets would also need to ensure their young core can gel around Antetokounmpo.
There's also the difficulty of getting Milwaukee to agree to this deal, in the first place. Trading a generational talent like Giannis would be a tough sell unless the Bucks are convinced their championship window has closed and they can't possibly re-tool around the Greek Freak.
