Steelers predicted to cut ties with Aaron Rodgers, Will Howard for $33 million AFC quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a completely new quarterback room in 2025, as the team added Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, and Will Howard to the position group this offseason.

Rodgers will be the starter this year, but the 41-year-old announced on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that 2025 will likely be his last season. That means Pittsburgh is set to have a new starting signal-caller in 2026, and though they could consider Rudolph or Howard for that role, they'll likely be back in the quarterback market next offseason.

The 2026 NFL Draft is filled with a bunch of promising quarterback talent, and though the Steelers could take a signal-caller in next year's draft, ESPN's Kevin Clark believes Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson is destined to be in Pittsburgh in 2026.

"I've never seen anyone more destined to be in the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback competition than Anthony Richardson," Clark said during an appearance on ESPN's NFL Live.

Richardson has struggled with injuries to begin his career and is currently dealing with a shoulder injury that caused him to sit out of mandatory minicamp. He is expected to be ready for training camp.

Indianapolis could look to trade Richardson next offseason if he doesn't take a massive step forward in 2026. Though he is an exciting talent, the former No.4 overall pick is still a sloppy passer who hasn't been consistently accurate, completing under 50% of his passes in 2024.

Pittsburgh, who desperately needs to find their long-term answer at quarterback, will be tabbed as a potential destination for Richardson in a trade.

However, Steelers general manager Omar Khan should avoid trading for the Florida product, as selecting a quarterback in the 2026 draft would be a wiser move than trading for Richardson, who is often injured and still needs a lot of development.
