Tate Taylor (San Antonio Harlan) named Gatorade National Track & Field Athlete of the Year
Even with a year remaining in his high school career, Tate Taylor of Harlan (San Antonio, TX) already might be the top sprinter in prep history.
At the Texas UIL 6A state championship meet, Taylor broke the national wind-legal record of 9.92 seconds in the 100m and tied for third in history with a 20.14 in the 200m. He then went to Nike Outdoor Nationals and won the 100m with a time of 10.10 despite inclement weather.

Rich Gonzalez, editor for PrepCalTrack.com (quoted in Gatorade.com's announcement), said: âOnly one other high school boy has run a wind legal sub-10 in the 100 and only four others â three-time Olympic medalist Noah Lyles, Olympic gold medalist Michael Norman, the Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill and NCAA champion Roy Martin â have run 20.14 or better in the 200."
All that before reaching his senior year of high school or making his college commitment. Look for Taylor to further cement himself as the fastest man in high school track history in the spring of 2026.
