Nick Brooks, an 18-year-old offensive lineman committed to the University of Texas, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Travis County. He was stopped for speeding at 47 mph in a 30 mph zone.
The police report indicated that Brooks had 'bloodshot' and 'watery' eyes and admitted to smoking marijuana and using a THC pen to the extent that he felt its effects.
Brooks claimed he had visited a 21-and-over establishment called 'Play,' which allegedly makes exceptions for University of Texas football players, despite being underage.
At the time of arrest, Brooks told the police he was planning to take two prospective football recruits to a nearby strip club. His speech was described as 'mumbled' and 'mushmouthed,' but he was noted for his polite and cooperative demeanor.
University of Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the situation by stating that they are aware of the incident, have spoken with Brooks, and will continue to monitor the legal proceedings while dealing with the matter internally.
Brooks, a highly sought-after recruit, had committed to the Texas Longhorns after receiving offers from 28 different schools and enrolling in January, following official visits to Texas, Georgia, Iowa, and USC.
Despite the arrest, Brooks was found not to have consumed alcohol, and his attitude during the arrest was considered cooperative by the authorities.
