Viktor Gyokeres makes transfer decision as European clubs circle

Viktor Gyokeres has broken his silence — and Sporting Lisbon may not like what they’ve heard. The Swedish striker has reportedly told the club he does not plan to return, making it clear he wants out.

His preferred destination? Arsenal?

The 27-year-old forward has been on fire since joining Sporting, scoring goals for fun and helping the club lift silverware.

But after what was supposed to be a smooth summer move, things have gotten a bit messy behind the scenes. And now, the saga has taken another turn.

Gyokeres reportedly called Sporting president Frederico Varandas to deliver his final decision. According to Fabrizio Romano, “Viktor Gyökeres has already personally informed Sporting president Varandas about his decision to leave, no intention to play for the club anymore. Gyökeres wants new chapter, he feels heartbroken after exit pact and not expected to return to training.”

Where can Viktor Gyokeres go next?

There are no shortage of clubs interested in Gyokeres. Manchester United and Juventus have been circling.

Saudi clubs are also watching closely. But apparently the player might have his heart set on Arsenal. Reports suggest the Gunners are preparing a formal bid in the region of £68 million, hoping to wrap up a deal before their pre-season tour.

However, there’s a twist. Arsenal’s top target was believed to be RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Talks have reportedly stalled there due to wage demands, which has opened the door wider for Gyokeres. And he’s trying to walk right through it — possibly sprint, if allowed.

Sporting, meanwhile, are standing firm. They insist there’s no obligation to sell below his £84m release clause. And they’ve denied any gentleman’s agreement with the player or his agent.

Gyokeres, for his part, believes he’s done everything right. He feels let down. And if Arsenal sign someone else, he may not forgive Sporting’s board anytime soon.
