Dive Deeper:
The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League has shifted from the traditional group stage to a 'league phase' featuring 36 teams, replacing the previous 32-team format. Each team played eight matches to qualify among the top eight for the knockout phase, with additional playoffs for those ranked ninth to 24th.
The competition structure transitions from the league phase to traditional elimination rounds, including two-legged matchups in the Round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals, before concluding with a final match at the end of the season.
The 2025 Champions League final is scheduled for May 31 at Munich's Allianz Arena, marking Germany's first time hosting since 2015. The match will not have a host team this year, as Bayern Munich was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Semifinal matchups involve Barcelona against Inter Milan, with a 3-3 draw in their first leg, and Arsenal facing PSG, where PSG leads 1-0. The outcome of the second legs will determine which teams advance to the final.
Future Champions League finals have been planned, with Budapest's Puskas Arena set to host the 2026 event, accommodating over 67,000 spectators. UEFA has delayed the decision on the 2027 final venue, pending updates from Milan regarding San Siro stadium renovations.
Ticket sales for Champions League matches are primarily managed by the participating clubs, facilitating direct access for fans. Secondary markets, such as StubHub International, provide additional opportunities to acquire tickets.

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League looks a little different to recent seasons, European football's governing body having rolled out its expansion plan.
This season's initial round followed what's become known as a Swiss model. The initial group stage was replaced by a "league phase" comprising 36 teams instead of the customary 32, which concluded on January 29.
The first round of the tournament saw each team play eight matches as they aimed to be ranked in the top eight places to earn a spot in the knockout phase. The teams that finished ninth to 24th were paired up for a two-legged playoff round that took place in February.
From here, we enter a more traditional elimination phase of the competition, with two-legged matchups in the Round of 16, quarterfinals and semifinals, all before the final at the end of the European club season.
That title match will be staged in Germany in 2025, marking the first time the country has hosted the Champions League final since 2015 when Barcelona beat Juventus 3-1 in Berlin.
