With Cooper Flagg expected to go No. 1, Mavericks could add another first-round pick
While the Dallas Mavericks are widely expected to select Duke star Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, they could look to trade for an additional selection in this year’s deep draft class.
The Mavericks have plenty of valuable assets they could use to pursue another first-round pick, including P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford and Jaden Hardy.
According to Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban, the Mavericks may explore options to secure an additional selection and target a point guard. After trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers and losing Kyrie Irving for an extended period due to a torn ACL in his left knee, the club is weighing its options for either a short-term replacement or a long-term solution through the draft.
One potential target? BYU standout Egor Demin.
In the latest mock draft from ESPN.com, compiled by Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo, Demin is projected to land with the Hawks at No. 13 overall. While it’s not a guarantee, the 6-foot-9 guard is widely viewed as a lottery talent.
His size and playmaking ability make him an intriguing fit. Demin’s vision and creativity would pair well in Dallas’ offensive scheme and help fill the void left by Doncic — especially given how Dereck Lively II has found success in pick-and-roll actions.
However, Demin will need to improve his efficiency in the NBA after shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from beyond the arc in his lone season at BYU. As a freshman, he averaged 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 three-pointers and 1.2 steals per game across 33 starts.
